Supplemental Endorsements (18 Hours of Coursework in Subject Area)

The supplemental endorsements listed below can be added to a valid 3 or 5 year educator license by completing 18 hours with a prefix in the specific subject area. All courses require a grade of "C" or higher. Application for the license should be made directly to the Office of Educator Licensure at the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE). The MDE licensure office will check coursework and grades using the official transcript.

For elementary education graduates only: If you are applying for a content area with 18 hours and are using a block pedagogy course, MSU must provide institutional program verification in order to obtain the license.

18 Coursework Hours Endorsement

Supplemental Endorsements that may be added to a three-year or five-year license with eighteen (18) hours of coursework in subject area.
(Coursework must have earned a grade of "C" or higher.)

405 and 411 are academic endorsements that are added by completion of special CTE requirements.

Added by completion of MDE-approved Early Childhood Specialized Training

122 Pre-Kindergarten add-on endorsement can only be added to a valid Elementary Education (116, 152, or 120) or select Special Education (221, 222, or 223) licenses that includes Kindergarten by completion of the MDE-approved Early Childhood Specialized Training.

Special Note: Advanced Placement Endorsement

Effective with the 2020-2021 school year, teachers may teach an Advanced Placement course with the appropriate secondary education content area endorsement.
